Extra discription
Weedlift 50 EC is a selective, pre-emergence herbicide formulated for transplanted rice. It provides broad-spectrum control of annual grasses, sedges weeds when applied within 0–3 days after transplanting (DAT). The active ingredient Pretilachlor is absorbed primarily through the coleoptile, mesocotyl and hypocotyl of germinating weed seedlings, and secondarily through their roots. Translocation is predominantly acropetal, with higher concentrations accumulating in vegetative tissue than reproductive parts. The product forms a herbicidal layer at the soil-water interface in the puddled field. As weed seeds germinate and attempt to emerge through this treated zone, Pretilachlor enters the seedling shoots and disrupts critical growth processes, resulting in seedling death before emergence.
Mode of action
Pretilachlor inhibits the biosynthesis of Very Long Chain Fatty Acids (VLCFAs) by targeting elongase enzymes in susceptible weed species. VLCFAs are essential components of cuticular waxes, suberin and sphingolipids — all critical for cell membrane integrity, cell wall formation and normal cell division. *Upon inhibition of VLCFA synthesis: -Cell membrane assembly is disrupted in actively dividing meristematic tissue. -Cell elongation and division cease in the shoot apical meristem. -Seedling fails to emerge, leading to pre-emergence mortality. -Effect is most pronounced on germinating shoots (coleoptile uptake), making application timing critical.
Product benefit
1-Broad-Spectrum, Triple-Category Weed Control: Controls grasses, sedges and broadleaf weeds in a single application 2-True Pre-Emergence Activity: Eliminates weeds at the germination stage itself, before they compete with the crop for nutrients, light and space. 3-Extended Residual Activity: The soil-surface herbicidal barrier provides weed control for 25–30 days post-application, significantly reducing the need for follow-up manual weeding or a second herbicide application. 4-Excellent Crop Safety Across Varieties: No adverse effect on any recommended rice variety under any agro-climatic condition. GST-mediated detoxification ensures a wide safety margin at recommended doses. 5-Favourable Toxicity Profile: Green triangle product. Low mammalian toxicity. Safer handling characteristics compared to several other rice herbicides in the market. 6 Can be applied as a foliar spray on standing water.
Applicable crops
Registered for Transplanted Rice (Paddy)
Dosage
500 ml / acre (Foliar Spray)
Spectrum
1,Grasses- Echinochloa crusgalli, Echinochloa colonum, Leptochloa chinensis, Panicum repens 2,Sedges- Cyperus difformis, Cyperus iria, Fimbristylis miliacea, 3-Broadleaf Weeds, Eclipta alba, Ludwigia parviflora, Monochoria vaginalis
Compatibility
Do not tank-mix with any other herbicide, fungicide or insecticide. Weedlift 50 EC should be applied as a standalone treatment.
Frequency of application
Single application within 0–3 DAT, before weed emergence.
Method of application
1- Water management is paramount: Ensure 2–3 cm of standing water at the time of application. The herbicide disperses through the water column and settles to form the soil-surface barrier. Dry or cracked fields will result in poor efficacy. 2- Do not drain the field for 2–3 days post-application. Premature drainage disrupts the uniform formation of the herbicidal layer and reduces residual activity. 3- Strictly adhere to the 0–3 DAT application window. Pretilachlor acts on germinating weed seedlings. Once weeds cross the 2–3 leaf stage, the product will not provide satisfactory control. 4- Ensure uniform application. Whether spraying or broadcasting with sand, uneven distribution will create untreated patches where weeds will escape. 5- Avoid application during foggy or windy conditions. Risk of spray drift and non-uniform deposition increases under such conditions. 6- Safety precautions: Use appropriate PPE (gloves, mask, protective clothing). Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly after application. No specific antidote is known; treat symptomatically in case of accidental ingestion.
