Wheat and pulses sowing lags in the initial phase
In many states, floods and unseasonal rains are affecting the sowing of crops. The major crop of Rabi is, wheat as well as pulses, and they are lagging behind in the initial phase, though the major crop of oilseeds has increased the sowing of mustard.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the total sowing of rabi crops has so far been in 95.35 lakh hectares as compared to 112.24 lakh hectare till last year. According to the ministry, the major crop of Rabi has been sown in only 9.69 lakh hectares so far, compared to 15.35 lakh hectare till this time last year.
Similarly, sowing of pulses has been reduced to 27.85 lakh hectares so far as against 39.93 lakh hectare till last year. The major crop of rabi pulses is sown in 19.82 lakh hectares in the current rabi. The sowing of Rabi crops is in the early stages and the number will increase further.
