Weather Constraints can lead to Decline in Mango Production
Mango manufacturing has taken a hit this year and is less evident in the markets. The country's biggest mango producer state, Uttar Pradesh, has experienced a decrease in manufacturing from 45% to 50% compared to last year. The production is also less than expected in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. Insram Ali, president of the Indian Mango Growers Association, the country's largest mango producers and traders organisation, points out that the nation had generated up to 20 million tonnes of mangoes in the previous year. This year's production can be 1.31 million tonnes, and the output may be half at the moment.
Recently, the sandy storm has damaged the crop in the primary mango producing state, which is Uttar Pradesh. Mango production in Uttar Pradesh was estimated to be up to 30 lakh tonnes, but production is now anticipated to be 20-22 million tonnes owing to the sandy storm. There may be a limited supply of the ‘Dasheri' mango in the state.
