New Delhi: The world is suffering from covid-19 pandemic.Economies have been hit by recession. Considering the importance of small farmers in recovering from the Corona pandemic crisis, the Walmart Foundation has announced two new grants for them. The grant is in September 2018 as part of a commitment to invest $ 25 million (about Rs 180 crore) over five years to improve the livelihood of farmers in India. The new fund of $ 4.5 million (Rs 33.16 crore) will be given to farmers through non-profit organizations. Now farmers will be able to earn more from better production and proper market access. Emphasis will be on increasing new opportunities for women farmers through farmer producer organizations. With these two new grants, the Walmart Foundation has so far invested a total of $ 15 million with eight non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in India, supporting programs designed to benefit 140,000 farmers, including about 80,000 women farmers. Walmart Foundation chairwoman Kathleen McLaughlin said, "The global covid-19 pandemic has increased pressure on India's farmers. Particularly women farmers are facing additional responsibilities, while their incomes are reduced.
