Urea imports reached 42 lakh tons
New Delhi: India's urea imports reached 42.03 lakh tons in the current financial year until the end of November 2018. Rao Inderjit Singh, Chemical and Fertilizer Minister, said recently in the Lok Sabha that this import costs more than $1 billion. Singh said that only government control is carried out in all fertilizers at the cost of urea. It is also allowed to import urea directly from the state-owned companies. About 2 million tons of urea is imported from Oman, and IFFCO and Kribhco companies are the importers. About 42, 03 tons of urea was imported in November 2018, with total being 1,488 million dollars.
Various companies can import fertilizers, except urea, through various licenses. These companies import fertilizers as per professional needs. The government is not keeping the exact statistics of the import. Source - Agrowon, 21 December 2018
