UK-based scientist come up with a robot, 'VegBot' to simplify vegetable harvesting
Scientists at Cambridge University, Britain have developed a robot using Machine Learning (an application of Artificial Intelligence which helps in running any system itself) for crop recognition and harvesting. They have named it VegBot. It easily recognizes lettuce (salad leaves) and is fully capable of harvesting crops efficiently.
According to a study published by The Journal of Field Robotics, in collaboration with Local Fruit and Vegetable Cooperative Committee, it has been successfully tested in various situations. UK scientists said that the prototype machines cannot be operated without help, so it is important for somebody to be present. However, it helps in increasing the utility of robotics in the agricultural sector. This technique will help farmers conserve their time and resources.
