Tomato Grafting: A Huge Boost to Increase Production
In general, vegetable growers are adopting new technologies that allow them to boost profitability while at the same time helping to improve production. Tomato growers face challenges at a greater level in achieving high yields, as this crop delivers the maximum benefit. Taking into account the production ability and the capital required for the tomato crop, this is a profitable crop.
One such new technology that is currently being developed in the planting of tomatoes is grafting. In the grafting method, a tomato plant known as rootstalk is cut off, and hybrid tomatoes are grafted onto it. Tomato cultivation develops through the use of grafted seedlings for the systematic management of fungal infections, nematode issues, and uptake of nutrients. These include wild tomatoes with high water-resistance properties, high endurance qualities without pest and disease, as well as healthy root development. Most importantly, since the preferred root stocks are tolerant of soil diseases and fungi, there is no risk of infection and disease, saving the cost lot of fungicide. The seedlings furthermore grow strongly, which enables to increase production. Typically, these seedlings are not highly influenced by excess rainfall, heat and cold.
The root stock for grafting should be 21 days and the scion for grafting should be 15 days. After grafting, keep the seedlings in the shade for 5-7 days and under the sunlight for 5-7 days, and then use them for cultivation in the main field. The cost of standard tomato seedlings and grafted seedlings differ significantly; but the expense of fungicide is minimal. At least 10% of the plants are spent on gap filling in the initial phases. Farmers can certainly afford this technology, which in turn will help them boost their economic benefits.
