Three New Wheat varieties now Available!
Agricultural scientists have succeeded in developing some varieties of coloured wheat, the nutrients in which are more beneficial for your health compared to the normal one.
The National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute located in Mohali, Punjab, has prepared these varieties of wheat. Varieties of purple, black and blue have been developed. Currently, it has been cultivated in several hundred acres. This cultivation is being done in Punjab, UP, Haryana and Bihar. The farming is being tested by the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) so that more benefits can be passed on to the people. Also, if there is any kind of damage from it, then it can also be detected. After this, its cultivation can start all over the country. NABI started work on it from 2011 after getting information from Japan. It has been successful after experimenting for several seasons.
The necessary amount of anthocyanin will be provided from the coloured wheat. Anthocyanin is an antioxidant and eating it will help prevent lifestyle diseases such as heart diseases, diabetes and, obesity.
However, the yield per acre of such wheat is quite low. While the normal wheat yield is 24 quintals per acre, the yield of coloured wheat is 17 to 20 quintals.
