‘This’ variety of rice from India preferred in the gulf countries
This year, there is huge demand for 1121 variety of Basmati rice from the gulf countries. Especially, the rice is exported to Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Europe and U.S.A. Last year 40 tonnes of Basmati rice and 88.18 lakh tonnes of non- Basmati rice was exported from India. Out of the total rice exports from India, 25% rice is exported to Iran only. Their annual purchase is 24.4 tonnes, informed Roshan Bathiya of Ghodawat Bathiya foods company. Rice is exported to Iran mainly from India and Pakistan. This export is done in the exchange of crude oil. Recently Iran exported rice from India on large scale in exchange of crude oil.
As the export has increased as compared to the production, the price of rice has increased by 1000 to 1500 Rs. per quintal. Along with international markets, Indian markets are witnessing increased
demand for non-Basmati varieties of rice like Ambe mohor, Lachkari Kolam, Surati Kolam during the Ramjan period. As the inward flow is less as compared to the demand, the prices of rice have increased in the last month.
