The new law on agricultural trade will give farmers the right price for their produce!_x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_
The Center is enacting a new law that will help farmers across the country in physical and electronic trade including a major role for Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) but without eliminating the existing mandis that dominate wholesale trade in agricultural production . The government is simultaneously working on a new law on contract farming. “A new draft of rules for agri-business law is being prepared. Former Agriculture Secretary SK Pattanayak said that the central legislation would help in doubling the income of the farmer. “If APMC wants farmers then they should become competitive and efficient - provide them better facilities, better prices and comfort. The central law will break cartelisation in APMC, giving farmers more power. However, experts are worried about opposition from some states. BJP-ruled states like Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat have already amended their APMC laws to allow farmers to sell their produce. “The Center will persuade the states to implement this central law in agricultural trade. We do not want any conflict because both the state and the center are working for the welfare of the farmers. We will give further information about the benefits of the new Act at the time of implementation.
