The government will buy ethanol made from sugar
New Delhi: For the sugarcane crushing season 2019-20 (October to September) starting from October 1, 2019, the central government has increased ethanol prices by 29 paise to Rs 1.84 per liter. Besides, the Central Government has also decided to purchase ethanol made from sugar after C-grade, B-grade. This will benefit the industry as well as sugarcane farmers.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the price of C-grade ethanol by 29 paise to Rs 43.75 per liter and the price of B-grade ethanol by Rs 1.84 per liter to Rs 54.27 per liter. The price of ethanol made directly from sugarcane juice was also increased by 29 paise to Rs 59.48 per liter.
After the CEA meeting, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the central government has increased ethanol prices to reduce dependence on crude oil imports. He informed that sugar mills are expected to supply around 260 crore liters of ethanol in the coming crushing season.
