Sugar Production in the Country is 5 Lakh Tonnes
Pune: Approximately 100 sugar mills have commenced, of which 4.85 lakh tonnes of sugar is produced. During the same period last year, 310 sugar mills were established in the country. The production of sugar in the country is therefore no less than half the previous year. The sugar cane mulch in Maharashtra started on 22 November due to prolonged rainfall and damage. In fact, only six factories have started in this region.
There are 18 factories established in Karnataka, producing 1.49 lakh tonnes of sugar. Last year, in 53 mills, 3.60 lakh tonnes of sugar was produced. In the meantime, as a result of this year's floods, the production of sugar is projected to decline by 45 to 50 lakh tonnes over the previous year.
There are 69 mills in Uttar Pradesh and 2.93 lakh tonnes of sugar have been produced. Two factories were commenced in Uttarakhand and Bihar each, one in Haryana, three in Gujarat and five in Tamil Nadu. These factories produced 49 thousand tonnes of sugar.
