Sugar Production Declines by 26% in Country
New Delhi: Sugarcane sourcing from 440 sugar factories has started in the country till January 15. These factories have produced 108.8 lakh tonnes of sugar between October 1 and January 15. Production of the Indian Sugar Mills Association showed a decline of 26.2% compared to the same period last year, according to a letter published by the Indian Sugar Mills Association.
Fewer factories started operating in the country this year compared to last year. Until January 15, 440 sugar factories were crushing. In the same period last year, there were 511 sugar factories. 63 sugar factories in Karnataka have averaged 21.9 lakh tonnes of sugar. During the same period last year, the 65 sugar factories had produced 26.8 lakh tonnes of sugar. Karnataka is the third largest producer of sugar followed by Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Sugar factories in the country from 2018-19 have an outstanding balance of Rs. 4.5 crore.
