Subsidy for sugar export
New Delhi: The central government has announced a subsidy of Rs 1 thousand 45 per quintal for export of sugar with various expenses like marketing, internal transportation and shipping. This will be a subsidy for all types of sugar, white, raw and refined. National Sugar Federation President Dilip Walse Patil has urged the sugar factories to send proposals for the export scheme.
Given the upcoming sugarcane sowing season, the government on Thursday announced a notification for the export of 3 lakh tonnes of sugar. The quantity of sugar already present in the new sugar season starting from 1 October is 145 lakh tonnes. Sugar production in the new season is estimated to be 263 lakh tonnes. The annual consumption in the country is estimated at 260 lakh tonnes. Given this, it is necessary to export 70 to 80 lakh tonnes of sugar.
