Sowing of wheat increased by 9.62%, total sowing across 487 lakh hectares
New Delhi: According to the Agriculture Ministry, the sowing of wheat has increased by 9.62 per cent to 248.03 lakh hectare in the current Rabi whereas the total sowing of rabi crops has also increased by 5.22% to 487.09 lakh hectare due to rain in October-November in many states. By this time last year, only 463.33 lakh hectares were sown. In the current season, the sowing of pulses has come down slightly to 119.16 lakh hectare as compared to 120.91 lakh hectare till last year. Sowing of gram, the main crop of Rabi pulses, has increased to 80.63 lakh hectare from 80.50 lakh hectare last year.
In other pulses, sowing of lentils has been done in 13.75 lakh hectares in the current Rabi and 8.30 lakh hectares of peas, while by this time last year, it was sown in 14.89 and 7.80 lakh hectare respectively. Urad and moong have been sown in 4.32 and 1.44 lakh hectare respectively.
