Some measures to increase fat and SNF growth in milk.
• Deworm all animals four times a year, which will enable all digested food items to be available for the animal’s growth.
• Provide balanced dietary feed to the animals daily.
• A dairy cow weighing 400 kg must be provided 20 to 25 kg of green fodder per day and 4 to 5 kg dried fodder should be given both in the morning and evening. Single feeds of fodder silage are more beneficial.
• Provide apt dried animal feed ratio for better milk production (300 grams to the ratio of 1 litre of milk).
• Provide apt mineral mixture ratio for better milk production (50 grams for 10 litres of milk and subsequently, 5 grams each for every other litre).
• Mix together wet green and dry fodder into a single feed. The dry fodder helps in the green fodder digestion and subsequently the quality of milk is improved.
• Sufficient fodder must be given twice in a day (morning and evening) such that the animal has sufficient time in between the feed to ruminate the food which effectively helps in digestion.
• If dry fodder is not readily available, then the wet green fodder must be dried for a couple of days, and later laid as feed on the second or third day which helps in removing the water content present in the wet green fodder.
• Provision to be made for 24 hour adequate and clean water.
• Immunization against various diseases of the animal must be adhered to as per vaccination protocol.
• Provide ample breathing and living space for animals in the cattle shed.
• Regulate the cattle shed temperature in summer by installing a fan and a fogger.
• Provide nets along the cattle sheds perimeter to protect the animals from cold winds in the winter.
• The cattle shed must be well ventilated and the height of the cattle shed roof should be at 8 feet from the floor.
• Provide 50 grams of mineral mixture and one to two kilograms of cattle feed per day to the pregnant cows.
