Solar Dryer Now Assists in Drying Flowers with Intact Quality
India exports about 70% dry flowers as well as various other parts of the plants But India's involvement in the global dry flower products industry is only 5%. Indian scientists have developed a solar dryer that is useful in drying flowers such as rose and marigold without damaging their beauty and properties. According to Dr. P.K. Sharma, a scientist at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, the internal temperature fluctuates, impacting colours, shape, and appearance when the flowers are dried under the sun. In a solar dryer, the quality of flowers remains intact.
Drying the rose flowers in the open requires about 54 hours, while it can be dried in about 33 hours in the solar dryer. Marigold flowers can be dried under sun within 48 hours, while it dries in the solar drier with quality and intact properties in about 27 hours. The freshness and qualities of flowers, leaves, plants and their branches can be maintained with the assistance of solar drier for an extended period.
