Larva enter into the stem slightly above the ground level and feed the internal content. As a result, dead heart is created and it easily pulled out and giving bad smell. Generally, infestation is seen in the early stage of the crop. As spraying is not suitable in sugarcane like crop and hence apply granular insecticides chlorantraniliprole 0.4 GR @ 10-15 kg or fipronil 0.3 GR @ 25-33 kg or phorate 10 G @ 10 kg per hectare in soil.
