Rabi Crop Cultivation Rises to 600 Lakh Hectare
New Delhi: Sowing of Rabi crops has increased to 600.32 lakh hectare in current season, which is 38.37 lakh hectare more than the same period last year. By this time last year, only 561.95 lakh hectares of crops were sown. Sowing of pulses and coarse cereals along with wheat has increased due to rains in several states in October and November.
According to the Agriculture Ministry, sowing of wheat, the major Rabi crop, has increased to 312.81 lakh hectare in the current season, which is more than the normal area of 305.58 lakh hectares. By this time last year, wheat was sown in 286.23 lakh hectares. Pulses sowing has also increased to 146.24 lakh hectares in the current Rabi whereas last year, pulses were sown in 142.22 lakh hectares till this time.
Sowing of gram, the main crop of Rabi pulses, has increased to 98.52 lakh hectare from 93.19 lakh hectare last year. Other pulses have been sown in 5.24 lakh hectares in the current Rabi whereas by this time last year 5.52 lakh hectares had been sown._x000D_
