Proposal to increase MSP of Rabi crops by 7%
New Delhi. The Ministry of Agriculture has proposed to increase the minimum support price (MSP) by 5-7% for the Rabi season. Sowing of rabi crops starts from November. Because of this, the Union Cabinet may soon announce the MSP of Rabi crops._x000D_ The ministry has proposed to increase the government's purchase price of wheat by 4.6% to Rs 1,925 per quintal over the previous year. The MSP of wheat was Rs 1840 per quintal in the last Rabi season._x000D_ The ministry has proposed a 5.3% increase in mustard MSP. This may increase the mustard MSP from Rs 4,200 per quintal to Rs 4,425. Barley MSP is proposed to increase by 5.9%. Also, the maximum MSP of lentil is proposed to increase by 7.26 per cent. The MSP of lentils can be Rs 4,800 per quintal._x000D_ The Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) recommends MSPs for major crops. The Commission took into consideration the production cost of the farmers. PM Modi has said that farmers should be given one and a half times the cost of their crops.
