Potato Farming through Scientific Technique
Potato crop yields more production per unit area than other crops and yields are also higher per hectare. Potato is the fourth-largest production after rice, wheat and sugarcane.
Climate: Potato is a temperate crop of climate. In particular, for effective farming, the daytime temperature should be between 25 and 30 °C and the night temperature between 4 and 15°C during the harvest period. At temperatures of more than 30°C, the growth of potato stops totally. Soil and its Management: Potato crop can be cultivated in a variety of soil types with pH between 6 and 8, especially sandy loam and loam are suitable for proper drainage. Perform 3-4 ploughing disks with a harrow or a cultivator. At present, the preparation of the field with the rotavator is also fast and good. Sowing Time: Generally, early sowing should be done from mid-September to the first week of October, sowing of the main crop should be done after mid-October. Latest Type: Kufri Chipsona-1, Kufri Chipsona-2, Kufri Giriraj, Kufri Anand are significant varieties. As per soil testing or at a rate of 25 kg of zinc sulphate and 50 kg of ferrous sulphate per hectare, it should be used in low-lying areas prior to sowing. If green manure is not used, the use of 15-30 tonnes per hectare of rotten cow dung increases the amount of bacterial substance. Irrigation Management: 7-10 irrigation is needed for proper crop growth and development and effective yield. If the potatoes have not been harvested before sowing, light irrigation should happen within 2-3 days of sowing.
