Onion export ban
New Delhi - Onion prices are on the rise across the country. Currently Onions are sold at the rate of Rs. 60 to 80/kg. To increase the availability of onion in the domestic market, the central government has banned onion exports. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a notification under the Ministry of Commerce. It has banned all types of onion exports with immediate effect.
Import and export are under the jurisdiction of 'DGFT'. Earlier on September 13, DGFT had fixed the minimum export price at $ 850 per tonne to curb onion exports. The purpose was to reduce onion prices in the domestic market.
