One mango weighing 3 kgs for Rs. 500 !
Mango is known as the king of fruits. But most of us might not know the queen of mangoes. The variety of mangoes originally from Afghanistan called ‘Nurjahan’ is famous as the queen of mangoes. Only few trees of Nurjahan have survived in the Kaththiwada area of Alirajpur district in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The speciality of these mangoes is that a single mango weighing 3 kgs costs Rs. 500 !
As the production of Nurjahan mangoes is limited, the mango lovers book the mangoes well in advance when the fruits are still on the trees.
Last year due to pests and diseases the production of these mangoes was very less. But this year due to favourable climate, the situation will be good, expect the farmers in this area.
The trees of Nurjahan start blossoming right from January. The fruit ripens and matures by June end. The average weight of these mangoes is 3.5 to 3.75 kgs. This year it is expected to be 2.5 kg.
