Now the colour of ladyfinger will be 'red'!
Varanasi. Indian agricultural scientists have developed a new species of ladyfingers after nearly 23 years of hard work. Scientists from the Indian Institute of Vegetable Research (IIVR) have developed a special red coloured okra. It is named 'Kashi Lalima'.
Scientists said that this ladyfinger is full of all the nutrients including antioxidant, iron and calcium. It costs more than the common ladyfinger. The price of different varieties of Kashi Lalima Bhindi ranges from 100 to 500 rupees per kg.
Let me tell you that red ladyfinger is found in Western countries and is imported from there for use in our country. Once its variety is developed in the country, there will be no need to import it. Now Indian farmers will also be able to produce it.
The institute said that work for this started in 1995-96. But now we have got success. The seed of Kashi Lalima Bhindi will be available for the common people from December. This will benefit the farmers, as well as the common people, will be able to get nutrients from it.
