Non-Basmati Rice Exports Declined by 16.55%
Non-basmati rice exports have declined due to the drop in the African countries' imports along with Bangladesh. Non-basmati rice exports declined by 16.55% in April-February during the first 11 months of FY 2018-19 and total exports stood at 67.11 lakh tonnes.
A senior official of the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) mentioned that last year Bangladesh had low rice stocks, due to which non-basmati rice had record exports from India. However, in the current season, Bangladesh has high stocks, resulting in lower import demand. Non-basmati rice exports in the last financial year 2017-18 were 80.42 lakh tons between April and February, while 67.11 lakh tons were exported in the current financial year. The total export of non-basmati rice in the 2017-18 financial year was Rs. 22,967.82 crore for 86.48 tons of lakh.
