New Tomato Variety will produce 1400 Quintals Per Hectare!
Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA) in Kanpur has developed a new variety of tomatoes which can grow from 1,200 to 1,400 quintals per hectare. This variety of tomatoes is named Namdhari-4266 that is now available to farmers.
Chandrasekhar Azad Agricultural University, Joint Director, Professor D.P. Singh said that the cost of weeding, sowing, irrigation, hoeing and composting, etc. in tomato cultivation is usually about Rs. 50,000 per hectare.
The specialty of this tomato is that it does not cause diseases and pests and the tomato crop is ready in 45 days. He informed that its nursery is planted in the months of September and October and the crop is ready between December and February. It also does not require much water for irrigation. Irrigation is easily done by drip method. He said that we are producing such tomatoes in Polyhouse, whose production is twice the normal.
More than 1,400 quintals have been produced in one hectare. Farmers can get seeds of this variety from our university. This will be very helpful in increasing the income of Late Tomato farmers.
