More on sugarcane ratoon management
If we are keeping the ratoon crop of the harvested sugarcane, then instead of burning the dried leaves and canes, they should be cut into small pieces and buried. Next, decomposing bacteria should be added and the mixture should be watered. Due to mulching, water scarcity will not be experienced in the summer and the roots will have a good growth. Also, with 3 to 5 tonnes of trash per acre, ample organic carbon will be available to the soil.
