Modern Method of Cultivating Chrysanthemum Flower
In all states there is a great demand for Chrysanthemum flowers, at the time of innumerable festivals such as Dussehra, Diwali, Christmas, and weddings. It is therefore highly profitable to cultivate these flowers.
Land:_x000D_ The selection of appropriate soil for the chrysanthemum crop is almost always advantageous. Soil with a range of pH between 6.5 and 7 is good for cultivation. Select medium to light, well-drained soil that has plenty of organic matter._x000D_ _x000D_ Weather:_x000D_ Chrysanthemum is a short-day plant, which indicates that it requires short days and low temperatures to bloom. During the initial period of growth, more amount of sunlight with long days are mandated. Chrysanthemum plant necessitates 20°C to 30°C for growth and 10°C to 20°C for flowering._x000D_ _x000D_ Variety Selection:_x000D_ Seeds of the varieties should always be selected on the basis of demand in that region._x000D_ _x000D_ Fertiliser Management:_x000D_ When preparing the field before sowing, add 10-12 tonnes of well decomposed manure to the soil. At the time of cultivation, Nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium should be given in the ratio 100 kg Urea 120kg DAP, 120 Potash per acre Split doses respectively, while at one to one and half months after planting it should be given @5 kg per acre._x000D_ Interculturing:_x000D_ Weeds must be removed from the farm from time-to-time. Weedless farm yields good and healthy crop growth.Usually, weeding should be completed after the fourth week after planting. The pinching of terminal bud further improves the flower production by increasing the auxillary/flowering branches._x000D_ _x000D_ Flower Harvesting:_x000D_ Full bloomed flowers have to be harvested before the sunrise. If the flowers are harvested late, the colour can fade and the weight would be lower. As far as the variety is concerned, flowering begins three to five months after planting, which lasts a month.
