Measures to increase quality of FYM
• For composting the FYM completely, use 1 kg or 1 liter of compost culture for 1 ton of FYM.
• If half decomposed FYM is used in the vegetable crops, the heat is generated there when it decomposes and it adversely affects the number of micro-organisms and roots of vegetables. Therefore, try to use fully decomposed FYM as far as possible.
• To prevent spread of fungal diseases through FYM, use biological components like Trichoderma viride, Pseudomonas fluorescens, etc.
• If vermi compost is prepared from FYM and supplied to the orchard, it proves to be more beneficial.
• When supplying FYM to the orchard, dig a pit near the tree and then fill it up with soil. When the FYM comes in contact with the soil, it helps it to decompose faster.
• Dig a pit and add FYM from cattle shed to it. Add water and compost culture. Let it decompose completely and then mix it to the soil. It then helps to increase productivity and quality of the crops.
