Management of Safflower Aphid
Guru GyaanAgroStar Agronomy Centre of Excellence
Management of Safflower Aphid
Safflower is widely grown in Maharashtra and also in a few pockets of Gujarat. Heavy crop losses are observed due to the infestation of aphids. These aphids are slightly larger in size and black in colour. The plant turns black due to the infestation; as a result, the photosynthetic activity and plant growth are stopped. Integrated Management - • The right time to sow the crop is when the aphid population is low.
• The presence of predators and parasites generally keeps them below the level. On initiation of aphids, spray neem-based formulation 10 ml (1.0% EC) to 40 ml (0.15% EC) per 10 litre of water. • Spray Verticillium lacani, a fungus-based insecticide @ 40 g per 10 litre of water, if the humidity is higher in the environment. • Spray phosphamidon 40 EC @ 10 ml or acephate 75 SP @ 10 g or imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 4 ml or thiamethoxam 25 WG @ 4 g or quinalphos 25 EC @ 20 ml or dimethoate 30 EC @ 10 ml per 10 litre of water on having 15 or more aphids per 10 cm terminal twig.
