Management of Pink Bollworm
The infestation starts during bud initiation and flowering. Infested flowers transform into rosettes just like the rose flower. Infested flowers, buds and small bolls drop down. Larva enters the boll and damages the branches and seeds. • Install 5 traps/ha for monitoring. If 8 or more than 8 moths per trap are caught continuously for 3 days, install 40 traps/ha. • Select 20 plants randomly and count the bud-flowers-bolls and if 5 larvae are seen out of 100 buds-flowers-bolls, spray any one of the recommended insecticide.
• Collect & destroy the rosette flowers-buds before application of insecticides. • Spray Cypermethrin 10 EC 10 ml or Deltamethrin 2.8 EC 10 ml or Lambda Cyhelothrin 2.5 EC 10 ml or Indoxacarb 15.8 EC 5 ml or Emamactin Benzoate 5 SG 5 g or Spinosad 45 SC 3 ml or Deltamethrin 1% + Triazophos 35% EC 10 ml or Chlorpyriphos 16% + Alfa-cypermethrin 1% EC 10 ml or Fenpropathrin 30 EC 5 ml or Fenpropathrin 10 EC 10 ml or Chlorpyriphos 50% + Cypermethrin 5 EC 10 ml in 10 lit. of water alternatively. • To avoid the increasing population, use balance fertilizers and irrigation. • If infestation is remains higher, stop the irrigation to end the crop.
