Management of Pigeon pea pod borers
The infestation of pod borers are more in late and mid-late pigeon pea varieties. Gram pod borer (Helicoverpa) make a whole on pod and feed inside while larva of pod fly enter into the pod and feed on the developing grains. Whereas, spotted pod borer larva webs together the flowers/ developing pods and feed on them. Integrated Management: • Install pheromone traps @ 40 per hectare for gram pod borer (Helicoverpa). • Install one light trap in the field, if electricity is manageable. • On initiation of pests, spray neem seed kernel powder 500 g per 10 liter of water (5%). • Spray HaNPV @ 250 LE per hectare.
• Spray Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) powder @ 15 g or Bouveria bassiana fungus base powder @ 40 g per 10 liter of water. • On higher infestation, spray lambda cyhelothrin 5 EC 5 ml or emamactin benzoate 5 SG 3 g or indoxacarb 15.8 EC 4 ml or thiodicarb 75 WP 20 g or chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC 3 ml or flubendiamide 480 SC 3 ml or deltamethrin 1% + triazophos 35% EC 10 ml or flubendiamide 20 WG 5 g or chlorpyriphos 50% + cypermethrin 5% EC 10 ml or profenophos 40% + cypermethrin 4% EC 10 ml per 10 liter of water. • Do not spray monocrotophos in pigeon pea grown for vegetable purpose.
