Management of Paddy Yellow Stem Borer
Paddy is India's staple crop for maximum states as it requires warm and humid climate. It is best suited to areas with high humidity, prolonged sunshine and safe water supply. The average temperature needed throughout the crop's lifetime varies from 21ºC to 37ºC. Maximum temp which the crop can tolerate is between 40ºC to 42ºC. Minimum temperature for sprouting is10ºC at the time of tillering, and the crop requires a high temperature for growth.
• Early transplanting i.e. first fortnight of July. • Apply nitrogenous fertilizers in 3-4 splits. • In nursery, apply Chlorantraniliprole 0.4% GR or Carbofuran 3% G or Cartap hydrochloride 4% G or Fipronil 0.3 GR @ 1 kg per 100 sq. m. (one gunta) 15 days after seeding in nursery with sand. • Clipping the tips of the seedling decreases the laying of the egg by the adult moth. • Granular insecticides are more effective to control larval stages of yellow stem borer. • Apply Chlorantraniliprole 0.4% GR @10 kg or Cartap hydrochloride 4% G @10 kg or Fipronil 0.3% GR @20-25 kg per hectare for two times in the paddy field first at the initial phase of the pest or 30-35 days after transplanting and 15-20 days after first application, the second spray should be completed. • Apply insecticides only to the infested area. • Additionally, spray Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC @3 ml or Flubendiamide 480 SC @3 ml or Fipronil 80% WG @1gm or Flubendiamide 20% WG @2.5 g or Flubendiamide 4% + Buprofezin 20% SC @10 ml per 10 litres of water.
