Management of Onion Nursery
• Seedlings are cultivated in the 2-4 guntha area to be transplanted in one acre field. _x000D_ _x000D_ • The site picked for the cultivation of onion should be weed-free and well-drained._x000D_ _x000D_ • The nursery should be grown in an area with sufficient sunshine. If weed growth is possible, light irrigation should be provided followed by weeding and the seeds should be sown after the application of manure. Seeds are to be sown on the nursery bed._x000D_ _x000D_ • The bed should be uniform and adequately levelled so that there is no waterlogging around the seedlings. Therefore, seedlings do not rot. _x000D_
• The bed should be 1 meter broad, 3-4 meters long and 15 cm high._x000D_ _x000D_ • Add well-decomposed manure with Trichoderma Viridae while preparing a nursery bed. _x000D_ _x000D_ • If the percentage of germination is good, 2.5-3 kg of seed is adequate for one acre of planting._x000D_ _x000D_ • Seeds should be treated with 2.5 to 5 g of Thiram or Captan or Carbendazim prior to sowing. _x000D_ _x000D_ • Light irrigation should be provided immediately after sowing for better germination of the seed, and second irrigation should be given after 7 days._x000D_ _x000D_ • Weeding should be done if weeds exist. Earthing up is supposed to be performed. Irrigation should be conducted 24 hours prior to transplantation. It will, therefore, be easy to remove the seedlings. _x000D_ _x000D_ • The seedlings will be ready to be transplanted within 40 to 50 days of cultivation._x000D_ _x000D_ • While seedlings are prepared for transplantation, there may be a possibility of thrips incidence and damping off. To control thrips, spray Quinolphos 25 EC @15 ml/pump and control damping off problem spray Mancozeb @25 gm/10 litres of water with an interval of 10-15 days._x000D_ _x000D_ Source: AgroStar Agronomy Centre of Excellence_x000D_ If you find this information useful, click on the yellow thumbs up sign under the photo and also share this with your farmer friends using the options given below.
