Management of Mango Hoppers
Nymphal and adults are wedge-shaped pests, which run very fast diagonally. In the mango tree, there is a large increase in the number of nymph and adult insects at the time of flowering. They suck flowers and soft leaves, leaving black layers on flowers and soft leaves. This interferes with the photosynthesis process. Wet weather is suitable for the growth of these plagues. Mango varieties such as Sardar, Hapus, and Langda are more susceptible. Management: • Do regular pruning of the trees. • Manage adequate drainage system in the orchard. • Instead of flood irrigation, follow drip system to reduce the population. • Spray quinalphos 25 EC @ 20 ml per 10 litre of water on tree trunk and thick branches during October-November months.
• Spray Bouveria bassiana or Verticillium lacani, a fungus-based insecticides @ 40 g per 10 litre of water and take advantage of bio-pesticides. _x000D_ • Spray any neem-based formulation @ 10 ml (1% EC) to 40 ml (0.15 EC) per 10 litre of water. _x000D_ • Spray buprofezin 25 SC @ 10 ml or deltamethrin 2.8 EC @ 3 ml or lambda cyhelothrin 5 EC @ 10 ml or thiamethoxam 25 WG @ 4 g or imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 4 ml or acetamiprid 20 SP @ 5 g or cypermethrin 10 EC @ 5 ml per 10 litre of water. Change the insecticides at each spray. Dr. T. M. Bharpoda, Ex. Professor of Entomology, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand- 388 110 (Gujarat India)
