Management of Fruit Fly in Cucurbits Crops
In particular, Cucurbit fruit fly causes damage to most guard crops such as, Smooth Guard, Bitter Guard, Pumpkin, Cucumbers, Ridge Guard, Watermelon, Pointed Guard, and others. After puncturing the Cucurbits Fruit flies, it becomes very soft. After that turns into brown colour. Grub feeds on internal content and hatch inside and rotting occurs. Infested fruits eventually drop down. Infestation occurs much more in March April.
Management: _x000D_
Follow deep ploughing over the crop to destroy the pupae of fruit flies. _x000D_
Collect infested fruits and bury them at least 15 cm deep. _x000D_
Do regular fruit picking and harvesting before ripening. _x000D_
Install cue-lure traps 16 per hectare at the same distance._x000D_
Insecticidal spray may not be helpful in controlling these fruit flies. _x000D_
Apply poison baits to attract and destroy the fruit fly._x000D_
For poison bait preparation: dissolve 500 g jaggery in 10 litres of water and keep it overnight. Add more 40 litres of extra water + Quinalphos 25 EC 50 ml every second day and mix well. Coarse spray this solution properly in the field. _x000D_
