The attack of falls armyworm may be continuing in this year especially maize grown in kharif season. Follow the integrated management strategy right from the sowing of the crop. Integrated Management (IPM): • Select the tight husk maize varieties. • Seed treatment with cyantraniliprole 19.8% + thiamethoxam 19.8% EC @ 4 ml/kg seed. • Intercropping of maize with pigeon pea, black gram or green gram. • Raise Napier grass as trap crop around the field. • Erection of bird perches @ 10/ acre and installation of pheromone traps @ 15/acre. • Collection of egg masses at early crop stage & destroy them. • Release of parasites, Trichogramma @ 50,000/ac, if available. • Apply Metarhizium anisopliae, a bio-pesticide @ 40 g per 10 lit of water or Bacillus thuringiensis, a bacteria base powder @ 750 g per hectare. • Apply dry sand into the affected leaf whorl of the plants at early stage. • First spray with neem based formulations {(20 ml (1% EC) to 40 ml (0.15% EC per 10 lit of water} at seedling to early whorl stage. • Second spray before initiation of tussling with emamectin benzoate 5 SG @ 4 g or spinosad 45 SC @ 3 ml or thiamethoxam 12.6% + lambda cyhelothrin 9.5% ZC @ 5 ml or chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC @ 3 ml per 10 lit of water. • Apply poison bait (rice bran 10 kg + jaggary 2 kg + thiodicarb 50 WP 100 g + water 2 lit) into the leaf whorl. video Source : Mongabay India
