Integrated Management of Mustard Sawfly
In India, Uttar Pradesh ranks first in the production of mustard, followed by Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. In addition to mustard saw fly, aphids and painted bugs can also observed to do the damage. Utmost care should be taken for the mustard sawfly as this pest attacks at the early stage of the crop.
Its larvae are dark green and black coloured and have eight pairs of legs on abdominal region. On slight touching to this larva, it behave lifeless and falls down on the soil (feign death). The larvae feeds on the leaves by making circular shot hole at the crop stage of 15 to 20 days. More than one larvae are seen on the lower surface of the leaf. In higher infestation, larvae defoliate all the leaves from the small plants and circumstances of re-sowing may arise. _x000D_ _x000D_ Integrated Management: _x000D_ • Hand picking of the larvae at the initiation and destroy them in the Kerosinized water. _x000D_ • When the population of larvae is found in about 2 per sq. feet, spray neem oil 50 ml or neem-based formulation 20 (1% EC) to 40 (0.15% EC) ml per 10 litre of water. _x000D_ • For taking the advantages of biopesticides, spray Bouveria bassiana @ 40 g per 10 litre of water. _x000D_ • In spite of these spray, if the population is not under controlled, spray Quinalphos 25 EC 20 ml or Imidacloprid 70 WG 3 g per 10 litre of water. _x000D_ • One can also use the dust formulation like Quinalphos 1.5% or Chlorpyriphos 2% @ 20-25 kg per hectare. It is not needed to use such dust formulations looking to their adverse effect on natural enemies and environment. _x000D_
