Integrated Management of aphids in Mustard
Infestation of aphid is generally started from November-December. Due to the sucking the sap, the leaves turn in yellowing and finally fall down. Whereas, flowers, pods and delicate shoots are dried. Black sooty molds is developed due to the secretion of honeydew like substances from the aphids. Plant turns in black and hinder the photosynthesis activity. As a result, production and quality is decreased. Besides, the amount of oil in the seed also decreases. Integrated Management: • Apply recommended nitrogenous fertilizer and irrigation. • Install yellow sticky traps. • On initiation of pest, spray neem base formulations @ 10 ml (1% EC) to 40 ml (0.15% EC) or Verticillium lecani fungus based powder @ 40 g per 10 liter of water during evening hours. • If the aphid population increasing, spray imidacloprid 70 WG @ 2 g or thiamethoxam 25 WG @ 4 g or cypermethrin 40% + profenophos 4% EC @ 10 ml or acephate 75 WP @ 10 g or imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 5 ml or carbosulfan 25 EC @ 10 ml per 10 liter of water.
• Spray the insecticides during evening hours during the flowering stage as activity of honeybee is higher during morning hours. • Avoid the insecticidal spray, if the population of predators & parasites is higher in the field.
