India’s Grapes Export Slowed Down!
Nashik: Russia is the biggest importer of Indian grapes. Last year, exports of grapes increased by 18.19%, of which 15% of total exports took place in Russia. This year, however, the Russian Quarantine Department (Plant Quarantine Station) has slowed down grape exporters without giving them prior notice for technical reasons. Kaisas Bhosale, Treasurer of the Maharashtra State Grape Bounty Association, said there is a huge demand for grapes in Russia. However, the customs department is seeking demand for a Pest Free Area certificate. The Grape Gardening Association took note of this. If this happens, the export of grapes will be smooth.
The Russian Customs Department is seeking pest-free certification. It requires the attention of the Government of India, the Ministry of Commerce and the Department of Agriculture. The Indian Ministry of Commerce must negotiate and compromise with the Russian Government. Reference - Agrowon, 22 February 2019
