India’s first ‘Compressed Biogas' Project launched
Pune: Five thousand ‘Compressed Biogas' (CBG) projects in the country have been launched by the Central Government. The project will be established with an investment of Rs. 2 lakh crores. The first CBG demo project in Pune was recently been initiated. In this demo, Dr. Anil Kakodkar, a famous scientist and Advisor of the Hydrocarbon Centre, was present. According to Dr. Kakodkar, the country's bio-energy production has been encouraged by second-generation technology. The Praja Company has made a valuable contribution to this. High-quality engineering skills were used in the Prajapatra project. New fuel is being prepared by combining biotechnology and compressed biogas. This enables much organic waste to be disposed of. It will also reduce imports of hydrocarbons.
This project is being built in Srinath Mhasoba Sugar Factory, near Pune. The government has started the composite biogas project to use the existing CNG as an alternative fuel. At the same time, tests have been carried out for the preparation of CBG from farm pesticides and paper mill waste in this project of the Praja Company. References - Agrowon, 11 January 2019
