Indian Turmeric Demand Increased Overseas Due To Corona
Turmeric exports from India to Europe and Western Asian countries have increased dramatically. The medicinal properties of the Indian turmeric have drawn the attention as a result of Coronavirus. Turmeric is usually consumed with hot milk, which is supposed to keep the respiratory system healthy. Kaushal Khakhar, CEO of KB Export, said that total demand for fruit and vegetables increased by 15%. But the demand for raw turmeric has jumped by 300%. Kaushal said that the demand for turmeric in the UK and Germany has increased rapidly. Rajiv Gupta, who exports vegetables and fruit from Mumbai, also said that the turmeric is harvested between November and January. At this time, he exports 3-4 tonnes of turmeric per day. With the onset of summer in February, demand normally begins to decrease. Nevertheless, demand for turmeric has unexpectedly risen in the last 10 days. At the end of February, he was exporting about 300 kg of turmeric daily. Around the same time, demand rose from 3 tonnes a day in March.
