Mumbai. Increasing productivity, marketing and export is necessary to increase farmers' income. In addition, promoting food processing with new technology in agriculture, the Essential Commodities Act (ECA) also needs to be changed. The second meeting of the High Powered Committee of Chief Ministers for the transformation of Indian agriculture was held in Mumbai, chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that suggestions have been sought from states for the cultivation of GM crops in oilseeds. After the meeting, Fadnavis said that for this, farmers should get a fair price for crops. There was a discussion on creating a forest market in all the states and having global connections. He said that exports of agricultural products need to be encouraged. Also, there is a lot of potential for export of organic agricultural products. Advice has been sought from the state governments on the production of GM crops in oilseeds. Apart from Fadnavis, the meeting was attended by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Chief Minister, Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Sahi and Odisha Agriculture Minister Arun Kumar Sahu. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar became involved through video conferencing. NITI Aayog member Prof. Ramesh Chand joined the committee as member-secretary.
