Increase in Prices of Onions, Potatoes, and Edible Oils
New Delhi: As the central government is trying to bring down onion prices, prices of potatoes, edible oils and other vegetables are increasing in Delhi and neighbouring areas. Traders from Azadpur Wholesale Market have stated that this has resulted due to rains last week in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, which are the providers of vegetables.
The prices of tomatoes, potatoes and other vegetable have also increased due to rains in the past week. Traders said the rates of cabbage, guar and carrot etc. had also risen. It has been difficult for the farmers to remove the vegetable crops from the water harvested fields and send them to the market. Due to this, citizens of Delhi and adjoining areas have to buy vegetables at almost double the rate of regular rates. If there is no more rainfall, it can take up to two weeks to improve the situation.
