Importance and action of Sulphur
Sulphur is essential element for the growth of crops.It has important role in preparing oil and chlorophyll in the crops. Importance of Sulphur 1. Using Sulphur increases yield. 2. Using Sulphur increases productivity and quality of the crops. 3. Sulphur increases efficiency and availability of nitrogen. 4. Sulphur is called as improver of the soil as it decreases pH of the soil.Using Sulphur is important in the sticky soil containing limestone. 5.Important use of Sulphur is to increase amount of proteins and oil in the oilseeds.
Action of Sulphur - 1. Sulphur helps to increase chlorophyll in the plant leaves. Thereby it stimulates food creation in the crops. 2. Sulphur helps to increase the nodes on the roots of pulses crops and fixation of nitrogen by bacteria. 3. Helps in the action of different enzymes and in the process of metabolism. 4. Sulphur is very essential at the time of creation of fruits. Symptoms observed in the crops due to deficiency of Sulphur १) Leaves of crops become yellow due to deficiency of Sulphur २) The fruits look yellowish green. They have less growth.The colour changes and the pulp inside becomes less. ३) New leaves and foliage start to become yellow.The petioles remain thin and short. ४) The number of nitrogen fixing nodes on the roots of di-cotyledon crops becomes less. ५) Amount of protein and oil decreases due to Sulphur deficiency.
