Illegal BT brinjals in the country without permission!
New Delhi: GM varieties of food crops are not allowed in the country. But BT brinjals are found to be cultivated in a farm in the state of Haryana. In the test executed in the central government’s laboratory, it was proved that a ‘bacteria-protein’ has been added by genetical engineering method to the brinjal crop in this farmer’s farm for pest control. The workers of GM-free India organization brought this fact to the notice of Genetical Engineering approval committee (GEAC) and the state government of Haryana.
The cultivation of GM brinjals in Haryana is illegal. It is violation of environment protection act. The state government of Haryana has assured GM-free India organization that it will enquire about the matter and take appropriate action.
The farmers in the state of Haryana who have the plot of GM brinjals have bought the saplings through middle men. Therefore, the workers of GM-free India have predicted a possibility that there might be a big racket which works in the state for supplying seeds-saplings of BT brinjals.
