Identify and control the insects in summer Green gram, Urid bean and Cowpea
Jassids: The nymphs and adults are light green in colour and walk in a zig-zag manner. The nymphs are wingless. Nymphs and adults suck the sap from the lower side of the leaves. If there is more infestation, the leaves become cup shaped in appearance.
Integrated management
o If the infestation is more, then mix and spray Dimethoate 30 EC 10 ml or phosphamidone 40 SL 10 ml or Monocrotophos 36 SL10ml in 10 liters of water, so that these pests can be effectively controlled.
o Before sowing the crop, if granulated Carbofuran 3 G in 33 kg / hectare or Phorate 10 G @ 10 kg/hectare is added in ridges, crop can be saved from damage caused by jassids in the early stages. If infestation is seen in standing crop, mix and spray dimethoate 30 EC 10 ml or phosphamidon 40 SL 10 ml or Thiamethoxam 25% WG or Imidacloprid 17.8 SL or flonicamid 50 WP 4 gm in 10 liters of water.
Thrips: Both nymphs and black coloured adults make lesions on leaves, buds and flowers and suck the sap coming out of the lesions. This results in the drying of flowers and buds and there is a direct effect on the yield.
Integrated management
o In the beginning of infestation, mix 500 gm (5% extract) neem seed extract or 20 ml (1 EC) to 40 ml (0.15 EC) neem based medicine in 10 liters of water and spray on the plant.
o Mix and spray acephate 75 SP 10 g or triazophos 40 EC 10 ml or diafenthiuron 50 WP or Fipronil 5 SC 20ml or ethion 50 EC 10 ml or spinosad 45 SC 3ml in 10 liters of water.
Spotted bollworm: This pest in its larval stage, damages makes webs around the flowers, buds and pods of cow pea, green gram and urid bean crop. It lives inside and feeds on the grains and seals the entry of the web with its excreta.
Integrated management
o 500 gm (5% extract) of neem seed extract or 50 ml neem oil or 20 ml (1 EC) to 40 ml (0.15 EC) neem based medicine in 10 liters of water and spray on the plant.
o Mix and spray Quinalphos 25 EC 20ml or triazophos 40% + Cypermethrin- 4% 44 EC) (10 ml) or dichlorvos 76 EC 7ml or lufenuron 5 EC 10ml or Monocrotophos 36 SL10ml or Thyodecarb 75 WP 20ml or Chlorantraniliprol 18.5 SC3ml in 10 liters of water.
Shoot fly: The infestation is seen more in summer. It bores into the upper part of the leaves and makes holes in the soft stem. More infestation is seen in small plant. Curling of the upper two leaves in young plant is a serious damage to the plant caused by this pest. Sometimes the plant also seems to be changing the color due to nutrient deficiency.
Integrated management
o Deep ploughing should be done and soil should be heated in summer.
o Before sowing the crop, if 30 kg / hectare 3 G granulated Carbofuran is added to the crop, effective control can be obtained.
o This pest feeds on the Land caltrops (Gokhru) plants growing on the boundaries of the farm, so these plants should be destroyed.
