Government’s TMA Scheme to Offer Financial Support for Transport & Marketing of Agricultural Products
The Ministry of Commerce has formed a detailed procedure for claiming benefits under the Transport and Marketing Assistance (TMA) scheme aimed at boosting agricultural exports.
The TMA scheme, announced in March, aims to provide financial support for the transport and marketing of agricultural products to boost exports of such commodities to certain countries in Europe and North America.
"Procedure and Aayat Niryat Form to avail TMA for specified agricultural products are notified," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has said in a notification.
The scheme covers both air and sea export freight and marketing assistance (normal and refrigerated cargo). As per the procedure, a registered and eligible exporter with a valid Registration Cum Membership Certificate (RCMC) issued by export promotion councils or commodity boards may apply for assistance online.
The documents required to submit the application include shipping or airways bill, commercial invoice, on-board landing bill, and proof of landing. The assistance can only be paid to the exporter who ships the cargo and in whose name payment is made through normal banking channels.
The DGFT also stated that the scheme is only eligible for export through electronic data interchange (EDI) ports. It will currently be available for exports from March 1 of this year to March 2020. Having welcomed the scheme, trade experts said the scheme would help to increase farm exports from India.
Last year, the government approved an agricultural export policy with the aim of doubling shipments to USD 60 billion by 2022. It aims to boost exports of agricultural commodities such as tea, coffee and rice and increase the country's share of global agri-trade.
