After gathering the data, it will be implemented in Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana New Delhi. Ministry of Agriculture will use new technologies to expedite the process of farmers’ claim settlements under this crop insurance scheme. Artificial intelligence will be used to estimate the crop yield at Gram Panchayat level. This step will allow government to estimate the yield accurately and quickly. This will be first used in the forthcoming Kharif season, the results of which will be available in 2020.
The technical tools used in the estimation of crop yield include High ratio unstable remote sensing data, drones, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Ministry will implement it for Paddy, soybean, cotton, millet, corn, groundnut and guar crops now. One officer stated that once the data comes in, it will be implemented in Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. As of now, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana uses Crop Cutting Experiment (CCE) to evaluate the damage of crops; farmers have had in natural calamities. It takes a quite long time and causes a delay in claim settlements. The use of new technology will expedite the process. The pilot project will be conducted by the Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Centre (MNCFC), which is practising the evaluation of crop yield at district level to cover almost 80% of the agricultural area of the contry.
