Government will conduct awareness campaign in one lakh villages about balanced use of fertilizers
Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said on Wednesday that the government will conduct a mission-like awareness campaign in more than one lakh villages to promote the use of organic fertilizers and reduce the use of chemical fertilizers. This decision has been taken after reviewing the progress of the Soil Health Card (SHC) scheme launched in the year 2015. Under this scheme, soil health cards are given to farmers at intervals of two years. These cards provide farmers with information about the nutrient status of their soil, as well as make recommendations on the proper dosage of nutrients to improve soil health and its fertility. "The degradation of soil chemical, physical and biological health is considered one of the reasons for stagnation in agricultural productivity in India," the ministry said in a statement. The officials of the Ministry have been asked to carry out awareness campaigns in more than one lakh villages in the current financial year, like mission campaigns for farmers. The statement said that as per the recommendations available in the Soil Health Card, the yield of crops was increased by 5-6 percent due to the use of fertilizers and micronutrients.
